Well-reported long piece on GM's and Nissan's rival entries into burgeoning
electric-car market. GM Volt has petrol engine back-up: more practical.
Nissan Leaf is all-battery: more idealistic. Which does the consumer want?

Robert Lieberman | Foreign Affairs | 30 December 2010

Review of Hacker and Pierson's "Winner-Take-All Politics", arguing that
America's rising inequality results not from market forces as such, but from

British Raj long gone, but plenty of Brits stay on as ghosts. Ex-governor

Book of the Day

[10]Solzhenitsyn: A Biography
    Links:
      10. http://thebrowser.com/recommended/solzhenitsyn-biography-by-michael-scammell-0

-by Michael Scammell -

Scammell had some access to Solzhenitsyn and was able to ask a few questions
in interviews he did in the 1970s. He was one of the first to see some of
Solzhenitsyn’s early works, but Solzhenitsyn got fed up of the questioning
and relations cooled. Then when he saw the nature of the final book they
cooled even further. It’s a Western-style biography by a liberal, cautious
admirer who wanted to give a balanced view.
