From 1638-1655, there was a little-known Swedish settlement in the Delaware Valley. The secrecy was by design; the Swedes didn’t want to be discovered by the Dutch. Though the smallest, least populous and shortest-lived colony, New Sweden left behind three legacies: they created the log cabin, brought Lutheran Christianity to the New World, and led one of the earliest civilian uprisings in the US (3,500 words)
