What We Get Wrong About Inflation

In 1963 Milton Friedman defined inflation as “a steady and sustained rise in prices”, which was "always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon”. But Friedman's rule hardly describes current conditions: Prices are rising because Russia has cut off Europe's gas. Is this still "inflation"? Governments are confused.
