Can I try The Browser for free?

We offer a free version, which contains a sample of the full Browser content. You can stay on this free subscription for as long as you like.

Can I access The Browser at a discount?

Yes! See our discounts here.

I don’t want the full version, but I love what you do - can I donate to The Browser?

We are delighted to report that this generous question is an FAQ. So we’ve set up a donations page here. We appreciate you!

Can I give The Browser as a gift?

Absolutely! You can find the gift page here.

Logging in

How do I login?

At thebrowser.com, click the orange “Subscribe/Sign in” button at the bottom right. On the next page, do not immediately enter your email address, but instead click ‘sign in’ at the top or bottom of the page. Enter the email address you used to sign up with us. You will receive a one-time log-in code, which will keep you signed in indefinitely on that device.

I’m not receiving the link…

If it’s not in spam, try adding support@thebrowser.com to your safe sender list. You can also reach out to us to see if we can find the problem.

What’s my password?

You don’t have one - you just need your email address.

I’m being shown a free subscriber page, but I’ve paid.

This most commonly arises because people are using a different email address to the one they first logged in with. If you are confident in your login email, get in touch and we’ll investigate.

Receiving emails and reading articles

I’m not getting my emails.

First, check that you are subscribed to all email lists at thebrowser.com/account, by clicking “Manage” next to “Emails”. If you seem to be subscribed, check your spam, and add editor@thebrowser.com to your safe sender list. If this fails, please reach out to us.

Can I receive only the weekday/Saturday/Sunday editions?

Yes! You can choose your editions at the thebrowser.com/account, by clicking “Manage” next to “Emails”.

I’m seeing a paywall when I try to read your article.

Oh no! This is never intentional. First, check the shortcode (a single letter) next to the article’s description in our newsletter. If it’s anything other than “U”, you can find an explanation here (there’s also a short guide at the bottom of each newsletter edition). Second, double check that it’s a paywall and not an optional sign up box by pressing “Esc” on your keyboard. If it persists and the article is marked “U”, it looks like we’ve been caught out - sometimes a paywall policy changes over time, or is varied between different countries. We’re sorry!

Billing

When is my renewal date?
You can find this at the top of the menu at thebrowser.com/account

How can I change my card details?

You can do this at thebrowser.com/account, under "Billing Info & Receipts"

How can I download an invoice?

You can download this at thebrowser.com/account, under "Billing Info & Receipts"

Cancellation

How do I cancel?

At thebrowser.com/account, look for your subscription - “The Browser” or “Friend of The Browser” plus a price - and click “Change”. Scroll down, and click “Cancel subscription”. You’ll still have access until your current period expires, so you can do this any time.

When does my current period expire?

You can see this info at thebrowser.com/account, under the top heading.

Submissions

I’ve published an article I think you’d be interested in sharing.

Great! Our editors read all articles over RSS. To keep this process independent, we ask people to submit the RSS feed of their publication via our submissions page. This will show us your article and anything else published on the site.

I’ve written an article I think you’d be interested in publishing.

We don’t publish articles directly; we recommend articles published elsewhere. If you decide to host your article online somewhere, please do submit the RSS feed as above.

I’ve written a book.

Sorry, we don’t review books.

Editorial policy

Do you really agree with the position in that article you shared?

Not necessarily! Our editor thought it was of interest. They don’t only share things they agree with.

Please could you share more articles about topic X? It’s urgent!

The Browser shares excellent writing to surprise and delight, often steering away from the news cycle, to create a respite in our readers’ days. We are not a news outlet, and do not base our coverage on urgency or public good. As you can imagine, we receive many requests like this; while we appreciate the deep concerns expressed, if we followed them all The Browser would be a very different publication.

Your article selections show a bias towards the left/the right/other.

The Browser’s editors share excellent writing that will surprise and delight you. They don’t only share in line with their own views. At the same time, we’re not a public broadcaster, and we don’t promise to curate equal representation on every side of every argument. Providing balance on all topics for a global readership with a global array of “dividing lines” is well beyond our capacity!
