Outstanding photo-essay charting eighteen days of Egyptian protests. From

Mina Kimes | Fortune | 11 February 2011
Epic analysis of growth in arms exports from US. Is there really "an Obama
arms bazaar going on"? Key question: "can we be both the world's leading
champion of peace and the world's leading supplier of the weapons of war?"

Matt Tyrnauer | Vanity Fair | 11 February 2011
Lauren Bacall looks back on her career, relationships and why she hates the
Oscar she won in 2009. Wonderful anecdotes on Sinatra and Bogie. Still

Joshua Tucker | Monkey Cage | 10 February 2011
Excellent questions for political scientists (good comments, too). Why can't
governments just carry on with their business, and wait for protesters to go
home? Do we have a model of what factors determine whether protests succeed?

Fatima Mernissi is a Moroccan feminist and produced one of the first books
on feminism within an Arab Middle East and in a Muslim context. She also
wrote a pioneering book-length text of Islamic feminism. In _Islam and
Democracy_ Mernissi is taking up Islamic arguments for claiming full
citizenship, democracy, equality and justice. Mernissi is bringing together
secular and religious arguments, and among the things she gives importance
to is the need to reform Muslim personal status law as part of achieving
democracy.
