Computing is expected to outpace heating, ventilation and air-conditioning as the biggest energy suck. This is just from cloud computing and office server rooms, without taking AI into account. All this energy consumed will increase heat, which will increase the need for cooling — a vicious cycle. The silver lining might lie in better technology: lighting consumes significantly less power since the advent of LEDs (1,600 words)
